Highlights from the Event

The bird walk at KMS Farms, Kanakapura was led by Manoj for 38 students from Oxford College, Bangalore. The session began with a short introduction to birdwatching, where students learned basic identification techniques such as observing bird size, behaviour, calls, and habitat. The guide also spoke about the importance of farmland and woodland landscapes in supporting a wide range of bird species, making it an excellent outdoor classroom for nature learning.

As the walk progressed through orchards, wooded patches, and open areas, the landscape revealed an impressive diversity of birdlife, with 45 species recorded during the session. Students were excited to spot striking birds such as the elegant Asian Paradise Flycatcher and the well-camouflaged Brown Wood Owl, while sightings of Spotted Owlet added to the thrill. Tree canopies hosted birds like Grey Hornbill, White-cheeked Barbet, Golden Oriole, and the colourful Small Minivet, while smaller forest species such as Pale-billed Flowerpecker, Spot-breasted Fantail, and Indian White-eye kept participants busy scanning the foliage. The walk turned into a lively exploration of sounds, colours, and bird behaviour, offering students a memorable hands-on experience with the rich birdlife of the Kanakapura landscape.
